Deep Cleaning vs. Standard Cleaning: What's the Difference?

The most common question before booking is whether you need a standard clean or a deep clean. They are genuinely different services — not "regular" versus "trying harder." Here is exactly what each includes, how long each takes, and how to know which you need.

What's in a standard clean

A standard clean covers the surfaces you see and touch daily:

  • Kitchen: Countertops, stovetop exterior, sink, appliance fronts, cabinet faces, floor
  • Bathrooms: Toilet (inside and out), shower/tub surfaces, sink and vanity, mirrors, floor
  • Living areas: Dusting all reachable surfaces, vacuuming carpet and rugs, mopping hard floors
  • Bedrooms: Bed-making (if linens are present), floor care, surface dusting

Standard cleaning maintains a home that is already at baseline. It prevents buildup, keeps high-traffic areas fresh, and means you never walk into a dirty kitchen or bathroom. It does not address what is behind, above, or inside things.

What a deep clean adds

A deep clean includes everything in a standard clean plus the surfaces that standard visits intentionally skip:

  • Kitchen: Inside oven, inside refrigerator, inside microwave, under small appliances, behind stove (if accessible), cabinet interiors (if requested)
  • Bathrooms: Grout detail scrubbing, inside shower tracks, exhaust fan, behind toilet base, fixture descaling
  • Throughout: Baseboards, door frames and hinges, window sills and tracks, ceiling fans, light fixtures, switchplates, behind and under furniture, top of cabinets

The difference is not effort level — it is surface coverage. A standard visit might take 15 minutes in a bathroom. A deep clean takes 45 minutes in the same bathroom because it addresses eight surfaces the standard visit does not touch.

Side-by-side comparison

| | Standard clean | Deep clean | |---|---|---| | Surfaces covered | Daily-contact only | All accessible surfaces | | Time (3BR/2BA) | 2–3 hours | 4–6 hours | | Starting price | $129 | $349 | | Frequency | Weekly, biweekly, or monthly | Every 3–6 months | | Purpose | Maintain cleanliness | Reset to baseline | | Includes inside appliances | No | Yes | | Includes baseboards | No | Yes | | Includes behind furniture | No | Yes |

How much longer a deep clean takes

For a typical 3-bedroom, 2-bathroom Gainesville home (1,200–1,800 sq ft), expect:

  • Standard clean: 2–3 hours with a two-person team
  • Deep clean: 4–6 hours with a two-person team

The time difference is real and it is the reason for the price difference. A deep clean accesses surfaces that require moving furniture, opening appliances, climbing step stools, and scrubbing detail work that a standard cadence deliberately skips to stay efficient.

How often you actually need one

Most homes benefit from a deep clean every 3–6 months. The exact interval depends on your standard cleaning frequency:

  • Weekly standard clients: Deep clean every 5–6 months. Weekly maintenance keeps accumulation so low that the deep-clean interval stretches.
  • Biweekly clients: Deep clean every 3–4 months. Two weeks between visits allows some buildup in hard-to-reach areas.
  • Monthly clients: Deep clean every 3 months. Monthly intervals allow meaningful accumulation on baseboards, fan blades, and inside appliances.
  • No recurring service: Deep clean whenever you feel the home has drifted past a tolerable point, or quarterly by calendar.

Kitchen deep cleaning

The kitchen is where the deep-clean difference is most dramatic. Standard cleaning keeps counters and the stovetop presentable. Deep cleaning addresses the grease film that develops on range hoods, the crumbs inside cabinet drawers, the splash residue on the backsplash behind the stove, and the mystery film inside the microwave that nobody wants to deal with.

In Gainesville kitchens specifically, humidity means that grease films attract and hold dust faster than in dry climates. A range hood that looks clean at eye level often has a thick film on top where heat carries grease vapor upward. That film is not visible until someone cleans it — and then the difference is impossible to miss.

If you are not sure which service you need, book a standard clean and tell us how long it has been. We will recommend a deep clean when the scope genuinely calls for it — never to upsell, only when the surfaces need it.
